The 2.7b1 package was supposed to fix this problem. I discovered
that the cimport extension module has still not been fixed. If you
remove it then Quixote and PTL should work with Python 2.6.

I didn't notice it in my testing because the cimport module was not
installed. I will build a 2.7b2 package with cimport fixed.
