CFP: 5th IEEE Int'l Conf. on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation
18-21 Nov. 96, Kauai, Hawaii.

The aim of the conference is to bring together researchers and practitioners
from industry and academia, and provide them with a platform to report on
recent developments in the newly emerging areas of technology, as well as
actual and potential applications to factory automation. Topics will include:
"Micromachines: Fabrication Technology, Design Issues, Computer Based
Development Tools." The deadline for paper submission is 1 May 96. For more

April Bay Area MEMS Journal Club
3 Apr. 96, 7:30pm, Thornton 100, Stanford Univ., Palo Alto, Calif.

The Bay Area MEMS Journal Club is an informal forum for professionals with an
interest in the MEMS field. Meetings are held in the evening on the first
Wednesday of each month and typically follow an open-discussion format in which
group participation is encouraged. This month topic will be: "Stanford Student
Presentations II, plus a research overview and possibly a facilities tour." For

MCNC MEMS and MUMPs Short Course
22-24 July 96, MCNC, Research Triangle Park, N.C.

This short course provides an overview of MEMS technology with an emphasis on
how to make use of the multi-user MEMS processes (MUMPs) program at MCNC. The
MUMPs program exists to provide low-cost, easy access to MEMS technology for
all domestic organizations (academic, industrial and government) and currently
features a three-layer polysilicon surface micromachining process. For more
information, please see:
