THE INSTITUTE OF MICROMACHINE AND MICROFABRICATION RESEARCH presents "A 5-DAY, HANDS-ON MICROMACHINING COURSE" The School of Engineering Sciences, in conjunction with the Institute of Micromachine and Microfabrication Research, will be presenting a 5-day short-course on the design and in-house fabrication of microstructural devices. The dates for instruction have been tentatively set for January 23-27, 1995, and the venue will be on the campus of Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, B.C. This course is quite unique when compared to similar workshops dealing with micromachining. We will be first providing an extensive overview to the field of micromachining during the first 2 days of classroom activity. This will be followed up by an intensive, 3-day hands-on session, where the participant will design and fabricate a microstructural device. It is our hope that this unique clean-room lab experience will give each attendee a greater understanding and appreciation of what is involved/required in the micromachining realm. Furthermore, unlike most other courses, the participant will be able to test their own microstructure for performance, and then to take it with them. The course is intended for researchers interested in micromachining activities, and would be an important vehicle to introduce companies to this emerging technology. There will be a registration fee for participants, to offset the costs involved in this undertaking. The fee will be $800/person, with a limited enrollment on a first-come first- served basis. The intent of this announcement is to informally evaluate and collect information about the interest expressed by potential attendees.
