biocompatibility coating on Nickel probes

Tinghui,

I would recommend gold. You also might want to use an adhesion/ barrier metal
underneath the gold, such as titanium. Make sure the oxide on the nickel has
been removed before depositing your biocompatible metals. If you intend to
make connections to the microprobes with wires you have another problem area.
How will you make these connections? Solder is not biocompatible. Perhaps a
final gold layer can be electroless plated on the microprobes and connections.
Take care not to use cyanide based electroless gold.

Hi folks,

I am fabricating Nickel Microprobes which are used in
medical applicatioins. Therefore I need to consider
the biocompatibility with human tissue. What
coating(s) should I apply on the probes and how? Can
somebody give some suggestions?

With a lot of thanks!
