We have developed a prototype MEMS micropump with an integrated fiber optic sensor. The pump currently measures 10 x 15 x 2 mm, and has been demonstrated to pump from 20 to 200 microliters per minute, but I am sure that it could be operated anywhere from <1 to > 500 microliters per minute, using a fluid with viscosity approximately that of water. The sensor is a single fiber with a specially-sensitized coating/cladding that can be tailored to sense almost anything, from chemical to biological elements. The device currently is only in prototype form, but we have plans to finalize the design and establish a marketable device. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has a need for either the micropump alone or the integrated micropump/sensor system. Input at this point will help us to establish the direction for the final product development, and it is possible to design a device around a specific application if needed.
