Thanks... the server is actually running FreeBSD 4.11-STABLE, and
upgrade to version 6 is planned but not imminent. In any case it is not
sure that that would fix the issue anyway.

Got this suggestion: if the software supported tcpwrappers, then one
can add a rule to /etc/hosts.allow to restrict the IP being able to
connect to the port. Is that possible to do for durus?
