wow, that was very clear and straightforward.   the only stumbling i had
reading it was the word 'chunk' in the following sentence:
   ``name`` is a string containing the next chunk of the path.
It wasn't until the example that it was clear that the chunk was the next
component(?) of the path.  Is "component" what _q_getname uses?
