IMHO Apache's mod_rewrite is the right way to do this. Anything you can
do with mod_rewrite, you can do in Quixote, but why bother? Keeping it
all in Apache-space means it will go faster, and fixing up old URLs is
done the same whether they're URLs to static or dynamic resources.
(The one exception to this would be a distributed, standalone Quixote
application, which should take care of handling its old URLs in
Quixote-space.)
BTW, have you stumbled across the article I wrote for Linux Journal a
year or so ago? It's a bit out-of-date, but still useful (IMHO):

Andrew has also written some good text at www.quixote.ca.

PS. hey! I just noticed that we've overtaken the Quixote Center for
faith-based social justice in Google! Woo-hoo! Way to show those
namby-pamby faith-based social justice types who's really boss! ;->
