The 1.x branch will definitely live on.  Whether MEMS Exchange is
the keeper of that branch is still unknown.  Right now I think it's
best if MEMS Exchange at least publishes 1.x releases.

I don't think Quixote 2 will continue to have a compatibility layer.
Our goal in adding the compatibility stuff was to ease transition
and also demonstrate the flexibility of the new design.  I don't we
have the resources to maintain a proper compatibility layer.  If the
community decides they want a compatibility and can maintain it then
I have no objection to including it as part of the standard package.

Yes.  Before the 2.0 release it might make sense to change that
package name (e.g. 'quixote2').  That way you could install both
versions.  Andrew Kuchling has suggested that we should use some
name other than Quixote.
