Just as a data point, LWN's 1GHz Athlon can serve up just over 60
pages/second on a local connection.  Of course, you have to choose the
right page: things like the front page and the RSS file are served without
having to go to the database.  It drops back to about 25 pages/second if
postgres has to get involved.
