Neat idea.  I thought about implementing something like that ages ago,
but never got around to it because I just don't need it!  I suspect it
could still be useful though.

Can you provide some examples of how to use your code?  Or maybe even
real documentation?  It's much harder to refuse a patch with docs.  ;-)
