I am interested in commercial applications based on MEMS technology. I am
considering now a new interesting idea and need to get some answers to basic
questions. The product main feature is holes which have to be rapidly opened
and closed on the surface of a very rugged material. The holes are opened on
one end only thus creating sort of a well. The MEMS device should work as a
little piston that when going up the hole is closed and when going down the
hole is opened.
The density of the holes should be about 20,000 - 25,000 per square inch.
Regarding the description above, I need to know:

1.  Is the technology currently available?
2.  If not - does it seem feasible (do you see any research directions)?
3.  Can you point out some research institutes that will cooperate in such
research?
4.  If you have an applicable experience and knowledge in a similar
application please let me know.
