Our group encountered a similar problem once, and the solution at the time was to manually (i.e. with a text editor) write the pattern in Post Script, that would guarantee all dimensions were preserved. Of course its not an option if the pattern is even moderately complex. I would still suggest trying to export into PostScript, but in general this problem is rather complex.
