It sounds like you're trying to anodically bond two glass surfaces.  I don't
think that will work, unless you coat one of the surfaces at the interface
with a metal, such as aluminum and connect that surface to the positive side
of your power supply.  Then make a point contact from the negative side of the
power to the exposed side of the other piece of (sodium containing) glass.

That approach may not be acceptable if the optical properties of the interface
are important.  In that case, a good optical quality bond  might be achieved
using sodium silicate.

HI, Does anyone have a detailed protocol for bonding glass to glass? We
have been trying to bond while maintaining an optical quality surface
(pure thermal bonding doesn't seem to work) and we haven't had luck with
applying a voltage across the glass with temp around 400 degrees. We're
using pyrex right now (borofloat, specifically). Any suggestion would be
appreciated.
