Thanks William. If you're sure KIO3 doesn't affect gold in any way, that's
good enough for me.

I am not talking about Lugol's solution, I3K, obtained by dissolving
elemental iodine in an aqueous solution of potassium iodide, KI. I am
talking about potassium iodate, KIO3. I am also very aware that you can use
Lugol's solution to etch gold.

I know that some think materials scientists are only 50% chemists, but
still, maybe assume that I did not mix up iodates with iodides?
